Nov 4, 2026: a rally before the report, then a beat

Sezzle closed Nov 3 at $122.43, down 9.2% over two sessions from $134.85 on Oct 30. It traded near $126 before the open on Nov 4, opened at $124.50, which was also the day's low, and climbed most of the day to a high of $139.74 at 1:57pm. It closed at $136.69, up 11.6%, on about 953,000 shares, roughly twice its normal volume.

The broad market helped. Stocks posted one of their best days in three months after Democrats won control of Congress, with the Dow up 1,524 points and the S&P 500 up 1.8% by midday, and the 10-year Treasury yield fell to 4.90% from 4.95%, AP reported. Lenders and payment companies rose with it: Upstart gained 9.4%, Affirm 5.0%, SoFi 3.6%, PayPal 3.4% and the financial sector fund XLF 3.5%. Sezzle's 11.6% was the largest of the group, which points to traders adding to positions ahead of the print, the same day the stock recovered its early-week drop.

The report hit at 4:01pm. Within four minutes the stock traded at $153.24, eased to about $141 by 4:21pm, then climbed again to $159.69 at 4:40pm ahead of the 5pm ET call. At 5:02pm it was $163.00, 33.1% above the Nov 3 close, in thin after-hours trading.

What moved the stock after the close:

  • Revenue beat by about $12.5 million. Revenue of $166.5 million grew 42.6%, faster than the 34.9% growth in transaction volume, which reached a quarterly high of $1.4 billion. The consensus was $153.97 million, Zacks reported.
  • The outlook went up again. Sezzle now guides 2026 revenue growth to about 42.5%, from 35% in August, adjusted net income to $190.0 million from $185.0 million and adjusted EPS to $5.45 to $5.50 from $5.25.
  • 2027 came in high. The preliminary 2027 guide of $7.20 of adjusted EPS compares with an average analyst estimate of $6.68.
  • Credit held up. The provision for credit losses fell to 2.7% of volume, and Sezzle lowered its full-year provision target to about 2.5%.

Before the report, RSI(14) stood at 58, the shares sat 12.7% above their 50-day average and 24.8% above their 200-day average, volume ran 2.0 times its 20-day average, and the stock was 30.2% below its 52-week high of $195.71. More of today's biggest stock moves are on our movers page.

The adjusted EBITDA margin rose to 42.1% from 33.9%. Operating expenses grew 25.9% to $102.3 million, much slower than revenue, even as marketing rose 81% to $15.9 million from $8.8 million. Transaction expense fell to 1.3% of volume from 1.7%, helped by a $3.7 million payment network incentive, and net interest expense dropped to 0.2% of volume. Revenue less transaction costs rose to 64.7% of revenue from 54.2%.

Active subscribers to Sezzle Premium and Sezzle Anywhere grew 68.1% to 955,000, up from 854,000 in June, and subscribers shopped 7.8 times in the quarter on average, against 6.5 times a year earlier. Diluted shares fell to 34.8 million from 35.7 million, and Sezzle bought back $39.4 million of stock in the first nine months of the year. Our guide to buybacks as catalysts covers when repurchases like these matter to the share count.

What management said

Chief executive Charlie Youakim said in the release: "We enter the holiday season with Subscribers approaching one million and transaction frequency reaching a Company high." He credited SezzleCash, launched in June, with "bringing new Subscribers onto the platform," many of whom then shop with Anywhere at checkout. More than 15% of new Anywhere subscribers eligible for SezzleCash made their first purchase with it. Sezzle Send rolled out to all users in October, and Sezzle Anywhere soft-launched in Canada after the quarter ended.

A new arrangement with WebBank lets the bank originate and hold eligible SezzleCash and Sezzle Send loans, which keeps them off Sezzle's balance sheet while Sezzle services them. Our explainer on guidance changes covers why a fourth raise in one year, plus a next-year number, tends to move a stock more than the quarter itself.

The bull case

The 2027 guide is the strongest piece. At $7.20 a share it is 8% above the consensus, and analysts usually move toward a company's own number after a print like this, which our guide to earnings estimate revisions explains. On the Nov 4 close the stock traded at a forward P/E of about 20.5 and about 19 times the 2027 guide, low for a company growing earnings more than 30% a year.

Positioning adds to it. Short interest was 4.43 million shares, 23.7% of the float, or about 7.4 days of normal volume. A beat with a guidance raise forces some of those holders to cover, a pattern our page on short interest and squeezes describes. The average analyst target is about $168. SoFi's jump on Oct 27, covered in why SoFi stock rose, came on a similar mix of a 2027 outlook above estimates and better credit.

The risks

Credit is the risk for any pay-later lender. Notes receivable rose to $355.5 million at Sep 30 from $283.4 million at the end of 2025, and the allowance for credit losses rose faster, to $39.6 million from $28.5 million, or 11.1% of receivables against 10.1%. The holiday quarter brings the most new loans, and a weak consumer would show up there first.

Regulation is the second. New pay-later rules in New York, Illinois and Oregon pushed Sezzle to drop its plan for a Utah industrial bank and apply on Oct 22 for a national bank charter with the OCC, Payments Dive reported. Youakim expects the review by the OCC, the Federal Reserve and the FDIC to take 12 to 18 months. Funding is the third: Sezzle had $104.0 million drawn on a $300.0 million credit line and $107.9 million of cash, of which $37.7 million was restricted.

What comes next

Sezzle presents at the Citi FinTech conference on Nov 10, KBW Fintech on Nov 11 and TD Cowen Financials and Fintech on Nov 17. The fourth-quarter report is expected around February 25, 2027, about a year after last year's, with the first full read on holiday credit. Our page on post-earnings announcement drift covers why stocks that gap on a clear estimate change often keep moving the same way.
