Oct 30, 2026: a 20% drop on users and the holiday guide

Roblox reported after the close on Oct 29 and fell 17% in after-hours trading, Dow Jones reported. It opened at $45.73 and kept falling. At 12:06pm RSI(14) stood at 35, the shares were 9% below their 50-day average and 20% below their 200-day average, and they were within 24% of their 52-week low of $33.88. The stock was down 46% this year, 24/7 Wall St. reported.

What the report showed:

  • A beat on the quarter. Bookings fell 12% from a year earlier to $1.70 billion, above the high end of Roblox's guidance and the roughly $1.62 billion analysts expected. Revenue rose 16% to $1.57 billion. The net loss was $227 million, or $0.32 a share, against $0.43 expected. Operating cash flow was $395 million and free cash flow $364 million.
  • Fewer users and payers. Daily users fell 9% to 138 million and hours fell 15% to nearly 34 billion. Roblox said both reflect a comparison with the "extraordinary growth" of 2025, and that both are up on a two-year basis. Monthly unique payers fell 16% to 30 million, while bookings per payer rose 5%, 24/7 Wall St. reported.
  • A weak holiday guide. Fourth-quarter bookings of $1.89 billion to $2.00 billion are down 10% to 15%, below about $2.02 billion expected, and compare with $2.22 billion a year earlier. Revenue is guided to $1.47 billion to $1.58 billion, up 4% to 12%, as revenue still includes spending from strong 2025 bookings.
  • Cash burn in the fourth quarter. Adjusted EBITDA is guided to negative $70 million to negative $10 million, after positive $138 million in the third quarter, and free cash flow to negative $190 million to negative $105 million. Capital spending of $380 million includes about $140 million moved from the third quarter, and infrastructure and trust and safety costs rose 24% to $258 million as Roblox spends on AI.

Roblox bookings in the third quarter of 2026, the fourth quarter of 2025 and the midpoint of the fourth-quarter 2026 guide

Why the guide matters more than the beat

Roblox stopped giving a full-year outlook in July, when it warned that bookings would fall, Dow Jones reported. That leaves the quarterly guide as the main signal, and the fourth quarter carries the most weight: a large share of bookings comes in the last week of December, which is why Roblox widened the range. Chief financial officer Naveen Chopra said the outlook includes "a modest headwind from the release of GTA in the quarter," and that the company does not "assume short-term improvement in monetization," 24/7 Wall St. reported. He named younger U.S. users as the weakest group. Our primer on why outlooks move stocks covers why a guide can outweigh a beat, and how to read an earnings call transcript covers how to find lines like these.

Barron's compared the reaction to Netflix's this year, where slowing engagement has outweighed solid financial results. Roblox has had to change how children use the platform: it added age checks, which 64% of daily users had completed by the end of the third quarter, after an April agreement with the Nevada attorney general, and it changed its discovery algorithm to favor games that keep players over games that make the most money in the short run.

The bull case

Roblox's answer is adults and AI. Users aged 18 and over made up 37% of U.S. age-checked daily users, up from 33% in the second quarter, and U.S. users aged 18 to 34 grew 26%. The company says more than 80% of its top 100 games used AI tools in the past month, asset uploads tripled month over month, and its prompt-to-game tool Build has published more than 70,000 games in a test in four countries, with a U.S. launch planned for December. In the first half of 2027 it plans to publish top games as standalone apps through Roblox Everywhere. Needham kept a Buy rating and a $55 target. With $6.24 billion of cash and investments against $1.01 billion of long-term debt, Roblox can afford a quarter of cash burn; for how to weigh that, see free cash flow yield.

The risks

The risks are the ones in the guide. Grand Theft Auto VI arrives on Nov 19 and competes for older players, the group Roblox is spending to win. Paying users are falling. Infrastructure and safety costs are rising faster than revenue, and Roblox has reached or is negotiating settlements with several states and territories over youth safety claims. BTIG kept a Sell rating and cut its target to $37 from $42, StoneX kept a Sell at $32, and Roth MKM cut to $54 from $60. Analysts' estimates tend to fall after a guide like this, a pattern we explain in estimate revisions.

What comes next

Roblox has not set a date for fourth-quarter results; it reported last year's on Feb 5, 2026, so we use February 5, 2027 as our checkpoint. Before then, the Grand Theft Auto VI launch on Nov 19 and the last week of December will decide where bookings land in the range.
